How familiar are you with
your supply chain. Who is touching your shipment? Very
important for both domestic and international shipments
to understand your carrier’s security procedures
and employee screening program. Are you a C-TPAT member?
Written communication should be in place that establishes
minimum required security procedures for domestic and
international supply chain. Security procedures for all
vendors, importers, third party warehouse support and
carriers assisting with the movement, warehousing and
staging of your materials, parts, components or finish
goods.
To assist with the movement of international imports,
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol developed Custom Trade
Partnership against Terrorism , C-TPAT a voluntary government-business
initiative designed to build cooperative relationships
that strengthen and improve overall international supply
chain and U.S. border security. It was recognized that
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) can provide the
highest level of cargo security only through close cooperation
with the ultimate owners of the international supply chain
such as importers, carriers, consolidators, licensed customs
brokers, and manufacturers. Through this initiative, CBP
is asking businesses to ensure the integrity of their
security practices and communicate and verify the security
guidelines of their business partners within the supply
chain.
As a partner, we can assist you with the development of
your cargo security policy and procedures.
